Welcome to the Stanford Online CTEL-CLAD Program! You are about to enter the exciting new world of learning that leads to your CTEL-CLAD certificate. By analyzing videos of real practice in real classrooms, combined with carefully-selected readings, you will learn about the latest methods in teaching English language learners - how you can support their English language development as well as their standards-based, content area learning. You will also be introduced to the exciting world of education policy and the scientific fields of linguistics, human learning and anthropology as they pertain to English language learners. The experience will be as fun and rewarding as it is serious and challenging. Since California law requires the certificate if you teach English language learners, why not make it meaningful? Stanford University's School of Education is ranked #1 in the U.S. News & World Report 2009 rankings of Best Graduate Schools in Education.
"In my undergraduate work, we did not spend a lot of time looking at pedagogy specifically aimed at ELL students. The CLAD program continues to impact my daily lessons, even 6 years after taking the classes. They were an invaluable experience and impact what I do today. In the future, I am hoping to pursue a master's degree in teaching English Language Learners. This interest is a direct result of the positive experience I had while taking my CLAD classes through Stanford."
